I am a researcher and professor with a focus on understanding how products behave and interact in human settings to promote wellbeing. I completed my Ph.D. in Digital Media from the UT Austin | Portugal program in 2017, where I was actively involved in various initiatives, including lecturing at the Future Places Doctoral Consortium, participating in the Austin Summer School, and serving as an exploratory visitor at the University of Texas. My initial background is in Communication Design from the Fine Arts Faculty of the University of Lisbon, with an Erasmus in Mixed Media at Hogeschool Gent. Additionally, I hold a Short MBA from Católica Business School.
During my PhD, I became a research member at NOVA LINCS and established partnerships with companies from the Portuguese Ministry of Health. I was also part of the NOVA Health Research Group, where I collaborated with NOVA Medical School and NOVA SBE on design projects. Additionally, I partnered with the LASIGE Lab at the University of Lisbon. My research has led to publications at international conferences such as CHI, BCS HCI, NordiCHI, SIGACCESS, and in the JMIR Medical Informatics journal. It also contributed to the creation of a new master course in Design for Health and Wellbeing, a pioneering program in Portugal, at the School of Arts and Design of the Polytechnic of Leiria.
I was invited to become a professor and have gained teaching experience at several universities.
Experience in industry as a product and UX designer in cloud-based solutions, clinical software and other industries, provided me additional skills and tools to design, test, and prototype for tangible world scenarios.
In 2022, I took maternity leave from my scientific activity.
Currently, I am a full-time researcher at the NOVA LINCS lab, part of NOVA School of Science and Technology. I also teach at Fine Arts Faculty of Lisbon University.
